Which lenses?

Single vision lenses

Single Vision, one power across all of the lens

Distance - used for driving, walking around, TV

Intermediate - used for computer screen at about 50 cm

Reading - used for close work and reading at about 30-40cm, that is 12-18”.

Bifocal lenses

Bifocal (with line) used for distance with a segment for close work

Advantages - you do not need to keep changing from distance (seeing) glasses to reading
glasses when you want to clearly see something close to you.

Disadvantages - the line may look ageing and you will have to learn where to put your head and eyes to see clearly.

Varifocal lenses

Varifocal (progressive) lenses (no line) can be used for all distances.

Advantages - you can see at every distance – from 40 cm to far in the distance.

Disadvantage - is that you have to learn where to put your head and your eyes to see clearly.
If your eyes stray to the edges of the lens, you will not see as clearly as straight ahead.

Quality of Varifocal

Standard quality - these are included in the cost of £69 and over frame and are suitable for general purpose wear.

Premium quality - these have a wider field of vision at all focal points. so you have improved clarity, focus and ease of adapting to new glasses

Elite quality - these have the widest field of vision in all areas. They are customised to your frame and
includes anti-reflection coating and smudge resistant coatings.

Occupational/Office - These are designed for the office environment. Large intermediate and reading areas. Suitable for computer users, not suitable for driving.
